When is the Camino quietest?
The Camino Crowd Index shows you where the crowds are. It deliberately says nothing about when — it is a yearly average. This is the other half: 52 towns, month by month, from the same data.
The shape of the year
Averaged across every town on both routes, attention peaks in Aug at 13.1% of the year's total, and bottoms out in Feb at 5.8%. A perfectly flat year would be 8.3% every month, so the peak runs 2.3× the trough.
Quietest three: Feb, Dec, Jan. Busiest three: Aug, Sep, May. Window: Aug 2025 – Jul 2026.
Your town, month by month
The route-wide average hides a lot — a Pyrenean village and a cathedral city do not have the same year. Pick where you will actually be.
In Agés, attention peaks in Aug and bottoms out in Dec — a 3.8× spread across the year.
Percentages are that month's share of Agés's year, so they sum to 100%. A flat year would be 8.3% every month. Counts from es.wikipedia.

What this actually measures
- Planning runs ahead of walking. A spring rise in reading is consistent with people preparing for a summer walk. Treat the curve as a leading indicator of interest, not a timetable of footfall.
- One year, not a trend. These are twelve consecutive months (Aug 2025 – Jul 2026). A single anomalous month — a news story, a film, an anniversary — moves the shape and cannot be distinguished from seasonality here.
- Cities have their own calendars. León and Porto have festivals, football and news cycles unrelated to the Camino. The smaller the town, the more of its curve is genuinely about the walk.
- Shares, not counts. Each month is a percentage of that town's own year, so shapes are comparable between a hamlet and a city. Absolute size is the Crowd Index's question, not this one.
- Only towns with a full year appear. A partial series would make a month look quiet purely because it was not counted, so those towns are excluded rather than shown with a gap.
